The The Missouri State Bears scored seven runs in the first inning to jump out to an insurmountable lead on Saturday vs. the Miami Hurricanes. When the carnage was over, the Bears would score a 12-2 victory in Coral Gables, clearing the way for a meeting with loser of UCF-Stony Brook.
Four players in the Missouri State lineup finished with multiple hits. Third baseman Brent Seifert went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Left fielder Kennen Maddox went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. First baseman Brock Chaffin finished 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Starting pitcher Pierce Johnson was stellar for the Bears, allowing six hits and two earned runs over eight innings while striking out seven. Miami starter Steven Ewing couldn't even make it out of the first inning. Ewing lasted two-thirds of an inning, surroundering six earned runs, six hits and two walks.
