Rams Vs. Chiefs: All Eyes On Sam Bradford In St. Louis's Preseason Home Opener

The St. Louis Rams have a long way to go before they're ready to compete. But their fans would probably be content, Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs, with a big play from Sam Bradford.

The St. Louis Rams' return to the embattled Edward Jones Dome is a week away, and they'll have cross-state rivals the Kansas City Chiefs to stare down when the coin is flipped at 7 PM Saturday night. Evening up their 2012 preseason record, of course, is the least of the average Rams fan's worries. The most of the average Rams fan's worries: Sam Bradford, who was competent but unspectacular in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts that didn't really tell desperate fans anything about the progress their franchise quarterback has made.

Pretend Week 2 might be more of the same. He's got a porous offensive line in front of him, and a wide receiving corps around him that is either unproven or unhealthy, and an offense that, for the third time in as many years, is still in the process of being installed.

But at this point we'll be easy to please. What Rams fans really want isn't another 7-for-9 caretaker performance, or a better job of working around his o-line—it's just one great-looking pass downfield. He whiffed on his attempt last week, to Steve Smith; he could make the Edward Jones Dome erupt if he connects with somebody this time.
