The 2012 NHL regular season is almost over, and with just a few games left the St. Louis Blues are still the No. 2 seed in the NHL Western Conference playoff bracket behind the top-seeded Vancouver Canucks. If the playoffs were to start today, the Blues (48-21-11, 107 pts) would take on the San Jose Sharks (42-29-10, 94 pts) in their opening round matchup. That would be good news for St. Louis, as they swept the four-game season series against San Jose.

Here is a look at the NHL Western Conference standings heading into Friday's action:

The 2012 NHL regular season is coming to a close, and with just a few games left the St. Louis Blues are hoping to overtake the Vancouver Canucks for the No. 1 overall seed in the Western Conference playoff bracket. The Canucks have been red-hot recently (8-1-1 in their last 10 games), while the Blues have been in a bit of a funk -- St. Louis is just 3-3-4 in their last 10, which is the worst mark of any projected playoff team in the West.

With just a few games remaining, the Blues are three points behind the Canucks in the Western Conference standings.

Going into tonight's game against the Detroit Red Wings, the St. Louis Blues are trailing the Vancouver Canucks by three points in the Western Conference. Vancouver has 109 points after extending its winning streak to seven games with a 5-4 shootout victory over Anaheim on Tuesday.

The Blues are holding steady with 106 points coming into the game against Detroit. With just three games remaining in the season for St. Louis, and Vancouver having just two left, the Blues will likely need some good fortune if they want to finish the season on top of the conference standings.

Finishing No. 2 in the West wouldn't be too bad, though. With a 48-21-10 record, the Blues are easily among the NHL's best teams and a legitimate contender to win the Stanley Cup Finals. St. Louis could use some momentum, though, considering it's won just three times in its past nine games.
