After a disappointing offensive performance in a shutout loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, the St. Louis Cardinals responded in impressive fashion with a 9-3 win. With the victory, the Cardinals took the series on the road against a key Central Division rival.

While the Cardinals found a rhythm at the plate, the story of the game was the performance of Lance Lynn, who was outstanding on the mound. Over 6 2/3 innings, Lynn allowed only one earned run and struck out eight batters to earn his first victory of the season.

At the plate, St. Louis had success against every pitcher Milwaukee brought to the mound. Rafael Furcal, Carlos Beltran and Shane Robinson each had three hits, with Robinson driving in a game-high three runs. Beltran hit his second home run of the season and drove in two runs in the win.

The St. Louis Cardinals suffered their first loss of the new season on Saturday when pitching Zack Greinke shut down the Cards' offense en route to a 6-0 Milwaukee victory at Miller Park. Today, the Cards (2-1) and the Brewers (1-1) will conclude the series with a 1:10 p.m. Easter Sunday start. The Cardinals will send 24-year old righty Lance Lynn to the mound, while 35-year old lefty Randy Wolf takes the hill for the Brewers.

Lynn has never started against the Brewers, but he had success as a rookie on the Cardinals' World Series winning team last season. Lynn, in 18 appearances and two starts, posted a 3.12 ERA and a 1-1 record. He went 2-0 in the playoffs with a 3.27 ERA in 10 relief efforts.

After lighting up the scoreboard with 11 runs on Opening Day, the St. Louis Cardinals offense came back to earth in a 6-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals were able to generate only five hits in the game and struggled to find any success against Zack Greinke, who threw seven innings of shutout ball and struck out seven batters.

The Brewers blew the game open in the sixth inning, when they scored three runs to push their lead to 4-0. Corey Hart proved to be the main offensive threat, as he homered in the second inning and sixth inning, with his two-run homer in the sixth inning pushing the lead to 4-0. Hart finished with three RBI's in the win, while Rickie Weeks hit 2/4 with an RBI.

Adam Wainwright was steady in his first appearance of the season, throwing 5 2/3 innings and allowing three runs in the loss. David Freese was the only guy able to have any success at the plate, as he hit 2/4

The St. Louis Cardinals (2-0) jumped all over Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day starter Yovani Gallardo, scoring six runs and smacking four home runs in his 3 2/3 innings, and now the Cards get a chance to claim a victory in the series in the second of the three-game set on Saturday afternoon. Zack Greinke will take the mound for the Brewers, while Adam Wainwright will make his first start since 2010 for the Cardinals.

The Milwaukee Brewers struck first on Friday afternoon with two runs in the first inning, but the St. Louis Cardinals scored the game's next 11 runs and took an easy 11-5 victory.

Jaime Garcia got the start and the win for St. Louis, as he pitched six solid innings. Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo lasted just 3-2/3 innings and allowed six runs on seven hits. He struck out three while walking five Cardinals batters.

Rafael Furcal was 3-5 at the plate, while Carlos Beltran, Yadier Molina and David Freese each had two-hit days for St. Louis. The Cardinals claimed the lead for good with a four-run third inning, padded their lead from there and added three runs in the ninth for good measure.

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers get ready for an NLCS rematch—with two first basemen looming large.

However things shake out when the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in Miller Park for Friday's Opening Day matchup, it's unlikely to look much like the Cardinals vs. Brewers NLCS matchup we saw last October. For one thing, the Cardinals aren't likely to get most of their innings out of relief pitchers; for another, both Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder will be gone from lineups that look drastically different than they did six months ago. Young aces Yovani Gallardo and Jaime Garcia will match up in Game 1 of the series, for which a World Series berth is not part of the spoils, so far as I know.

Player to watch, St. Louis: 2010 20-game-winner Adam Wainwright will start Saturday's afternoon game against Zack Greinke, marking his official return to the rotation after a year off following elbow surgery. In the lineup, the Cardinals are still deciding between Daniel Descalso and Tyler Greene in an unresolved infield contest.

Player to watch, Milwaukee: Mat Gamel is going to get the bulk of time at first base for the Brewers, and he has a big uniform to fill.
