There’s something positive that has come out of the Blues’ injury problems of the last few years: the ability to get creative with line-parings. Davis Payne is especially good at figuring out what works, but so far this season, it hasn’t had to be obvious. The replacement for Andy McDonald was as plain as the nose on Alexander Steen’s face.
Steen will be moved up to the top line to play left-wing to David Backes and Jamie Langenbrunner. Steen is the only member of the Blues to have points in every game (three goals, two assists). Steen filled in for McDonald a bit last year with Backes during the line juggling that was necessary when McDonald was out for 24 games.
