Adam Wainwright, 20 Wins, Finally

That's it! The curse of Kyle McClellan is over! The St. Louis Cardinals can finally claim another 20-game winner, and Adam Wainwright's baseball card now has an especially feng shui peak to it; that move from 19 to 20 is very nice, although switching 2008 and 2007 around would be ideal.

In any case, it's the Cardinals' first 20 win season since Mark Mulder's back-to-back-to-back Chris Carpenter's 21-win coming out party in 2005, just six months after the Cardinals decided they needed a real ace. In case you're already planning ahead, or ready to give Kyle McClellan one last punch in the gut, the last time they had a back-to-back 20-game winner was 1984-85, when Joaquin Andujar won 20 and 21 games.

Other back-to-backers since 1901, when winning 20 games became less a thing to expect and more a thing to celebrate: Bob Gibson from 1964-1966 and 1968-1970; Mort Cooper in 1943 and 1944; Dizzy Dean from 1933-1936; and Jesse Haines in 1927 and 1928.
