The St. Louis Cardinals used Octavio Dotel as a key relief pitcher down the stretch and in the postseason as they won the World Series, and now it appears that they're one of two finalists to sign him, according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Detroit Tigers are the other team that's still on Dotel.
Dotel posted a 3.50 ERA with the Cardinals and Blue Jays last season, having a resurgent year in terms of peripheral statistics. He was dominant in St. Louis after being acquired in the Colby Rasmus deal, with a 3.28 ERA in 24.2 innings but a far more impressive 1.57 FIP. He's always missed tons of bats, but in St. Louis he missed more than usual while displaying unusually good command.
