Jackie Robinson Day 2011: Cardinals Don 42 With Dodgers

Los Angeles is a ways away from Brooklyn, but the St. Louis Cardinals will spend Jackie Robinson Day in 2011 with the Dodgers. 2011 will be the third straight season that everybody in baseball wears Robinson's 42, which is tough on scorecard-wielders but still a nice sight for most other people. The Cardinals-Dodgers game, which begins at 9:10 CDT, will be preceded by a pregame ceremony; the Dodgers are commemorating elsewhere with a panel discussion that Matt Kemp, James Loney, Don Newcombe, and Maury Wills will attend, among others.

The Cardinals are 1-1 since MLB began the league-wide 42 policy. In 2009 they topped the Arizona Diamondbacks—and Jon Garland—12-7. Ryan Ludwick homered and Chris Duncan tripled, which apparently happened, and Joel Pineiro picked up the win. April 15 2010 was a Bud Norris day—Kyle Lohse lost one of his best starts of the season as Norris struck out nine Cardinals in five innings.

Today—Kyle Lohse goes against Jon Garland. No word as to Bud Norris's whereabouts.
