Shelby Miller Reaches AA, Springfield, Missouri Advised To Watch AA Baseball

Top St. Louis Cardinals prospect Shelby Miller was promoted to the AA Springfield Cardinals—he tweeted the news himself—and to everyone who lives in Springfield, Missouri, I must insist: Go to a Springfield Cardinals game while he's pitching there. Miller was popular with Cardinals fans after he was drafted just for being a high-priced, high school pitching prospect with an oustanding fastball, but he's exceeded any reasonable expectations despite being treated with kid gloves in his minor league career to date; he leaves high-A Palm Beach having struck out 81 batters in 53 innings, and in 2010 struck out 140 in 104.

20 years old, he's on a pace that will give Cardinals fans an exceedingly fun thing to complain about in Spring Training when he's cut late in March to run over AAA Memphis for a few months. If you're in Springfield now you get the chance to see if Miller will be able to live up to some completely unreasonable expectations as he makes his high-minors debut.

Don't miss it, lest you get some unappreciative looks from those of us who have, instead, managed to put down roots in Springfield, Illinois.
