MLB Rumors: Milwaukee Brewers' Prince Fielder Loss Canceled Out By Anti-Fielder

There has been one pleasant reassurance for the Milwaukee Brewers, while they lose Prince Fielder to the Detroit Tigers, that fans might not have anticipated enjoying going in. At least, they can tell themselves, we were so awful at third base. At least the loss of Prince Fielder will be canceled out by the loss of an equal amount of unobservable Anti-Fielder.

Phew, right? Aramis Ramirez is not as good as Prince Fielder, but between Casey McGehee and Craig Counsell the Brewers will be jettisoning well over a win below replacement in an infield that also gainfully employed Yuniesky Betancourt. If Brewers can pull the infield over replacement level overall, and Ramirez remains three or three-and-a-half wins above a replacement third baseman, the Brewers will have successfully (if temporarily) filled the not-inconsiderable amount of empty space left behind in Fielder's absence.

Now, as to whether Mat Gamel and Norichika Aoki will be able to fill in at first base and Temporary Ryan Braun—well, that's another question entirely. There, unfortunately, they've already exhausted their supply of Anti-Fielder.
