Cardinals vs. Giants, 2012 NLCS Game 2: Game time, TV schedule, starting pitchers and more

The St. Louis Cardinals hope to ride Chris Carpenter's postseason success to take Game 2 of the NLCS against the San Francisco Giants.

Jeff Curry-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The St. Louis Cardinals eye a 2-0 lead in the NLCS Monday night against the San Francisco Giants, and if all goes well, they'll take the Game 2 matchup at AT&T Park behind the aging arm of Chris Carpenter.

Carpenter, at 37 years old, has been injured for a good part of this year. He had a rib removed in a surgery that also extracted neck muscles, and Carpenter has no appearances against the Giants this season. His record sits at just 0-2 and he has recorded 12 total strikeouts on the year.

Still, he returned toward the end of the regular season and threw in one postseason game. Against the Nationals in the NLDS, Carpenter went 5.2 innings and gave up seven hits and no runs.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy will counter with Ryan Vogelsong on the mound, and he'll throw out the first pitch at 8:07 p.m. ET.

The game will air on FOX.

Vogelsong enters Game 2 with a 14-9 record this year, but it's Carpenter's 10-2 career postseason record is the statistic to watch coming into Monday's game.
