A night after winning a rain-delayed, low-scoring Game 3, the St. Louis Cardinals will try to take a 3-1 series lead over the San Francisco Giants in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Thursday night.
Adam Wainwright takes the mound for the Cardinals after getting shelled by the Washington Nationals in his last start, Game 5 of the National League Division Series, in which he surrendered six earned runs on seven hits in 2⅓ innings of work in the come-from-behind St. Louis win.
The Cardinals could also be without Carlos Beltran, who is considered day-to-day after leaving Game 3 in the first inning with a knee injury. In replacing Beltran on Wednesday, rookie Matt Carpenter belted a two-run home run in the third inning, giving St. Louis the eventual winning runs in the 3-1 win.
San Francisco will counter with Tim Lincecum, who will make his first postseason start this season after appearing in three prior contests out of the bullpen, including Game 1 of the NLCS on Sunday. Lincecum tossed two innings and didn't give up a run in the 6-4 Cardinals victory.
Television coverage from Busch Stadium is set to begin at 7 p.m. CT on Fox.
