After winning the NL wild card game against the Braves, the St. Louis Cardinals will face the Washington Nationals in the NLDS. Game 1 of the best-of-five series is scheduled for Sunday in St. Louis.
Gio Gonzalez will be making the start for the Nationals. Gonzalez led the major leagues with 21 wins in 2012, going 21-8 with a 2.89 ERA. He struck out over a batter per inning in 2012, and combined that with a career-best walk rate as he was one of the anchors of the Nationals staff.
Gonzalez will be opposed by Adam Wainwright of the Cards. Wainwright went 14-13 in 2012 to go along with a 3.94 ERA. He faced the Nationals twice this season, going 1-1 in those games. His last start came against Washington on Sept 28, and he pitched six innings in the win, allowing the Nats only a single earned run.
