The St. Louis Cardinals will have a new alternate home jersey in 2013, the team announced on Friday, leaving the ranks of the select few MLB teams that only use traditional home and road uniforms.
The Cards' new jerseys are an homage to the team's past, featuring 1950s-style piping and the off-white color of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. St. Louis relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal modeled the new digs in a photo that the team posted on Twitter shortly after the announcement:
Thanks @trevrosenthal for modeling the new uniform today! #STLCardsjersey twitter.com/Cardinals/stat…

The Cardinals had been one of four MLB teams, along with the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers, not to have previously worn an alternate jersey.
In addition to the new jersey, the team will also make small adjustments to its current home and road uniforms, updating the quality of the logo and making the numbers on the front a bit smaller. They'll also wear red hats and blue belts on the road. The team still plans to incorporate the blue hat into its scheme somehow, although specifics aren't yet known.
