The St. Louis Cardinals have promoted Blaise Ilsley to bullpen coach, according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Ilsley is the Cardinals' fourth bullpen coach in four seasons, replacing Dyar Miller. An official announcement is expected Monday.
Ilsley has spent the past five seasons as the pitching coach for the Memphis Redbirds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cardinals. In three of Ilsley's five seasons in Memphis, the Redbirds have led the Pacific Coast League in earned run average. The Redbirds won the Pacific Coast League title in 2009.
Per the Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals are also expected to officially announce John Mabry as hitting coach at Monday's announcement , replacing Mark McGwire. McGwire accepted the same position with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ilsley's promotion caps a busy day for the Cardinals organization. In addition to McGwire leaving, the Cardinals reportedly extended a $13.3 million qualifying offer to right hander Kyle Lohse.
