Padres Vs. Cardinals Final Score: St. Louis Adds Runs Late To Secure 4-3 Victory

The St. Louis Cardinals trailed 1-0 to the San Diego Padres going into the bottom of the seventh inning on Monday night, but the Cards scored two runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to lock up a 4-3 home victory. The win moves the Cards to 23-19, while San Diego falls to 16-27 on the season.

Shortstop Rafael Furcal clubbed an RBI single to right field in the seventh to get the scoring started. Third baseman Matt Carpenter added a sacrifice grounder to give the Cards a 2-1 lead before the end of the inning.

Left fielder Jesus Guzman doubled to deep center in the eighth inning to tie the game for San Diego, but Tyler Greene would win it for St. Louis in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run homer to right field.

Cards starter Jamie Garcia went seven innings, allowed seven hits and two earned runs while striking out seven. Jason Motte earned the win for St. Louis as he improved to 3-1 on the season.
