In a game that featured outstanding pitching performances from both starters, the St. Louis Cardinals dropped the series-finale against the Cleveland Indians courtesy of a three-run ninth inning from the visitors. Jason Kipnis hit his 10th home run of the season to push the Indians to the 4-1 victory.
With the score tied at one in the top of the ninth inning, it was Kipnis that delivered the key hit for the Indians. His three-run homer off of Jason Motte staked the Indians to the 4-1 lead, which Chris Perez finished off with his 20th save of the season.
Joe Kelly delivered an impressive effort on the mound in his MLB debut, allowing just one run and striking our four batters in five innings. However, he received little offensive help, as Ubaldo Jimenez was dominant. Jimenez allowed just one earned run in seven innings.
