Tuesday's series opener between the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals will feature one hell of a pitching matchup: St. Louis' breakout ace Lance Lynn is set to face the reigning American League Cy Young winner, Detroit right Justin Verlander at Comerica Park.
Verlander is only 6-4 this season, but the 29-year old has just a 2.66 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. He won his last start on May 14, allowing only five hits and two runs over eight innings while striking out eight Chicago Cubs batters during a 5-3 Cubs victory.
Lynn has been every bit as dominant in the National League. He's 10-2 with a 2.42 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. Lynn has won his last two starts, and is coming off a brilliant effort against the Chicago White Sox in which the 25-year old righty didn't allow a run in 7.1 innings.
