Cardinals Injury Update: Jon Jay, Matt Carpenter Activated From DL

On Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals activated first baseman Matt Carpenter and outfielder Jon Jay from the 15-day disabled list and optioned first baseman Matt Adams and OF Adron Chambers to Triple-A Memphis. Carpenter hit .288/.356/.519 in 118 plate appearances with St. Louis in 2012 before heading to the DL with a strained oblique, but his rehab assignment went well and he is now ready to join the team in Kansas City for their series against the Royals.

Jay has recovered from a sprained shoulder, and he is hoping to build on the .343/.395/.438 batting line he produced over 117 plate appearances with the Cardinals before heading to the DL. The Cardinals open their interleague series against Royals on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium (7:10 p.m. CT first pitch).
