MLB Trade Rumors: Zack Greinke Returns To The Brewers' Rotation Tuesday

The Milwaukee Brewers are 9.5 games out of first place in the National League Central, but the main thing keeping them from cashing in their MLB trade rumors cred and dealing star pitcher Zack Greinke is... their treatment of star pitcher Zack Greinke. Greinke, 9-3, hasn't pitched since July 13, and was skipped in the rotation during a series with the St. Louis Cardinals. The reason: Neither a trade, as was speculated, nor an injury, as feared, but his less-than-stellar July, which included an ejection-aided case of back-to-back starts.

Greinke is set to go up against another veteran ace on a floundering team Tuesday, when he returns to the rotation against the Philadelphia Phillies and Cliff Lee. What he does in this, his second-to-last-start before the MLB trade deadline falls on July 31, could decide where he is for the rest of the season--and where the Brewers are, for that matter.

The Cardinals, with their massive stock of prospects, can't be counted out for Greinke, but no specific rumors have tied the two sides in recent weeks.
