After getting roughed up against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his last start, Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals was able to find the strike zone and dominate the lowly Colorado Rockies during a 4-1 Cards victory on Wednesday.
Wainwright struck out seven of six innings, allowing eight hits and one run, to improve to 7-8 on the season. Jason Motte came in to nail down his 18th save of the season to secure the victory. The win moves St. Louis to 43-39, while Colorado falls to 31-50.
The Cardinals scored one in the first inning, one in the second and two in the eighth. Third baseman David Freese delivered the biggest blow, a two RBI single to center in the eighth that could have scored a third run but catcher Yadier Molina was thrown out at the plate.
