2012 MLB All-Star Game: Giancarlo Stanton Still Slated For Derby Despite Injury

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton is considered by many to be the favorite in the 2012 Home Run Derby, but on Friday it was unclear if Stanton would be able to compete in this year's derby in Kansas City. Stanton has missed the Marlins' last four games with a slight right knee injury, but he intends to be back in the team's lineup on Saturday when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals, and he expects to be healthy enough to participate in the Home Run Derby.

Stanton tested out his knee in a pre-game workout on Friday afternoon and felt good enough on Friday night to pinch hit in Miami's 3-1 win over St. Louis.

Stanton will join Carlos Beltran, Carlos Gonzalez and captain Matt Kemp as part of the NL's derby squad.
