NFL Scores: Atlanta Falcons Strike Back, Lead St. Louis Rams 23-17

The Atlanta Falcons found themselves in solid field position despite Donnie Jones’s 51-yard punt and took advantage of it, rolling over the St. Louis Rams’ defense to take a 23-17 lead with two minutes remaining in the third quarter. Matt Ryan improved to 19-for-30 for 195 yards with his second touchdown of the day, a two yard dink to Justin Peelle.

The Falcons moved the ball 58 yards in eight plays, including three of 10 yards or more and with just one third down, at the Rams 24. Michael Turner has taken on a greater role in the offense in the second half; he now has 19 rushes for 73 yards.

The Rams’ defense continues to find itself having to defend untenable positions, thanks both to the field position they’re gifted from the start and a penchant for giving up first downs until it’s too late. They could definitely use a takeaway at this point.
