With Week 17 on its way the NFL Draft order for 2011 is about to be set, but St. Louis Rams fans won't know where they'll be rooting for their team to select a wide receiver until tonight, when they play the Seattle Seahawks for a ticket to the playoffs—and a ticket out of the top 20 picks in the draft.
↵I've said it before, and I'll say it again—basing the draft order on the results of a postseason tournament and the splitting of conferences into arbitrary divisions makes as little sense as it's possible for sports leagues to make, which is not very much sense at all. It betrays a total lack of understanding, both of the draft's purpose and the best way to gauge the long-term soundness of a football team. But it's happening, and winning this week's game could drop the Rams to 21 (or worse!) from a place somewhere in the middle-teens.
