New Jacksonville Jaguars Owner Shahid Khan Tried To Purchase St. Louis Rams

A former bidder for the St. Louis Rams has renewed his chances to purchase an NFL franchise -- this time, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to the Florida Times Union, the new Jacksonville Jaguars owner -- pending approval from the NFL -- will be Shahid Khan, an Illinois businessman whom St. Louis Rams fans may remember as the gentleman who previously attempted to purchase the Rams in 2010. Ultimately, the NFL denied Khan's bid amid troubles with the IRS, awarding the franchise to Stan Kroenke instead.

"Shad" Khan is a graduate of the University of Illinois and, despite his otherwise Midwestern roots (not including his Pakistani origin), has already stated he will keep the Jaguars franchise in Jacksonville. The statement comes amid worries that the franchise, long struggling with attendance (even when it had winning teams), would seek to move to Los Angeles or another metropolitan location on the west coast.

Stan Kroenke, who eventually did purchase the Rams franchise, also owns the Arsenal F.C. in north London and had previously owned the Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, and Pepsi Center before purchasing the Rams.
