NFL Mock Draft 2012: Why Andrew Luck Can't Join The St. Louis Rams

Andrew Luck will probably not play for the St. Louis Rams in 2012, and if they keep losing this might make your 2012 NFL Mock Draft especially ugly especially early in the mock drafting season. I apologize, as a Rams fan, for this inconvenience. Bill Barnwell has the reasons why on Grantland, and his reasoning seems to end with the revelation that nobody but the Miami Dolphins has it in them to Suck for Luck at all costs.

The issue for the Rams is simply Sam Bradford, in spite of his complicated mediocrity to date. The Indianapolis Colts, another Luck competitor, cold at least theoretically consider spending a fraught year with Luck as Peyton Manning's neck-healthier understudy. But the Rams have no such route—drafting Luck means going full Jimmy Clausen on Bradford, the team savior, a year after his superficially impressive debut.

And that just won't happen. Sorry, mock drafters: You're going to have to come up with some really terrifying Mock Trades with that number one pick if Bradford can lead the Rams out of the Top 10 sometime soon. Here are the St. Louis Rams' needs: Everything! Except Andrew Luck! You're welcome.
