So, St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Rams fans, just how desperate are you for Sam Bradford to have an interesting receiving option in 2011? The New Orleans Saints released Jeremy Shockey yesterday afternoon, leaving the veteran tight end on the open market a year ahead of the end of his contract. Shockey is about 0.75 Danario Alexander Units on the injury scale, and at 31 he isn't likely to get any better than he is today. He's probably also not quite good enough for Steve Spagnuolo to shirk his whole four pillars thing, as the team was apparently ready to ponder when Vincent Jackson became available.
↵But Daniel Fells's numbers tell us, if nothing else, that Sam Bradford loves his tight ends, and Shockey remains an interesting option at the position, if also one who'll never shake the specter of his early potential. Maybe between him and Michael Hoomanawanui, catcher of footballs and high-sprainer of ankles, the Rams could get 16 games out of their "first-string" tight ends.
↵Or maybe I'm just wishing the Rams would do something-anything to be a little more interesting in 2011.
