2011 NFL Mock Draft: Cam Newton Still Carolina Panthers Bait

The latest SB Nation 2011 NFL Mock Draft was rolled out Monday, and despite Blaine Gabbert's excellent Pro Day performance and Jimmy Clausen's continued existence the mothership thinks the Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton will be yoked together forever come NFL Draft day, or at least until they draft another quarterback in the first round in 2012. Newton is definitely the easiest hyped of all the candidates, but putting an already-famous quarterback into an ugly situation in Carolina seems like a recipe for disaster on this end.

The St. Louis Rams luck into Julio Jones for another week, after a stretch following the NFL Combine that saw him chosen ahead of them every time. In this week's scenario A.J. Green, fresh off his poor Wonderlic scores, falls to the wide receiver-hungry Washington Redskins at 10, an infamous Julio Jones trap-spot, leaving the Rams free to select the receiver of Sam Bradford's dreams.

But anything can happen more than a month away from draft day. Whoever the Carolina Panthers pick—be it Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, or anybody else—will set off a chain reaction that could drastically alter the landscape by pick 14. Mock draft accordingly.
