2011 NFL Draft: San Diego Chargers Pick Corey Liuget, Popular Mock Ram

Corey Liuget was one of the most popular Mock Draft picks for the St. Louis Rams at No. 14, but a glut of defensive stars in the middle of the first round had him slide all the way to No. 18, where he’ll help to anchor the San Diego Chargers’ defensive line.

The Illinois product has a very refined technique and plays with a motor that impressed Mocking The Draft, among other NFL Draft motor-inspectors. He’s not as spectacular as a guy like Nick Fairley, but there are fewer questions about his drive. Some are worried about his size, but the Chargers weren’t among them. Maybe they noticed that he’s listed at 6’3", 300 pounds.

As a St. Louis-based regional blog, I’d like to say a personal goodbye to the St. Louis Rams’ first-rounder who never was. He’d been selected by so many mock-Rams, including Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, that I’d begun to think of him as a real Ram. He’ll always play for the St. Louis Fake Rams in my heart…
