The Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers capped the 2011 NFL Draft’s first round by drafting OT Derek Sherrod, their second first-round offensive lineman in as many years. Aaron Rodgers has to feel loved, if nothing else; Sherrod joins Bryan Bulaga on the list of extremely large Secret Service agents out to protect the Packers’ mustachioed superstar.
The Packers definitely play to their strengths with this pick, but in their defense it’s hard for the defending Super Bowl champions to attempt to rectify a glaring weakness they don’t have. At Acme Packing Company most of the fans seem on board with the pick, even if they might have had other priorities—mainly some added pass rushing—going into draft day. It’s hard to argue with extending Aaron Rodgers’s career, as a general rule.
So concludes a wild first round for the 2011 NFL Draft. The second and third rounds begin Friday, and will prove just as ubiquitous on ESPN and the NFL Network.
