Rams May Cut Jason Smith, According To Report

The career of St. Louis Rams' offensive tackle, and former No. 2 overall pick, Jason Smith has been colored by a mixture of injuries and inconsistent play. After missing half of the 2011 season with a concussion, Smith's future with the team seemed to be on shaky ground, and today Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio is reporting that the Rams may cut Smith if he isn't willing to take a significant pay cut heading into the 2012 season.

According to Florio, Smith is owed a base salary of $10 million in 2012, based on the parameters of the deal he signed prior to the league's overhaul of the rookie wage scale. But, only $1 million of that is guaranteed, so the Rams could cut easily cut ties with Smith if he doesn't agree to a new salary somewhere far south of $10 million.
