With a few teams considered to be vying to pick Baylor Bears QB Robert Griffin III, there will be speculation up until the draft regarding the possibility and merit of the St. Louis Rams trading their No. 2 overall pick to a team that desires Griffin. If they do indeed pull the trigger on a blockbuster trade, what might the Rams' first round haul look like?
In his most recent mock draft for SB Nation, Ryan Van Bibber has the Rams dealing the No. 2 overall pick to the Cleveland Browns for their two first round picks, which are No. 4 and No. 22. With the fourth pick, Van Bibber has the Rams selecting Oklahoma State Cowboys WR Justin Blackmon, who may get tagged by the Rams at two, but is considered to be better value a few picks later than that. At No. 22, Van Bibber has the Rams taking Stanford Cardinal OT Jonathan Martin, which would allow the Rams to upgrade at two spots by trading one pick.
Here's Van Bibber on both selections:
There's a new regime in St. Louis, and they won't be willing to make the same mistakes of the last one, thinking that Sam Bradford can get by with a group of receivers led by Danny Amendola, the poor man's Wes Welker. Everyone keeps pointing out that Blackmon does not compare to last year's top receivers, but he has loads of talent.
22. St. Louis Rams (Projected trade: from Cleveland via Atlanta), Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
How badly could the Falcons use this pick? Julio Jones is a very good player, but this season was evidence that they just weren't ready to swap all those picks for him. Cleveland will take it ... and give it to the Rams for RG3. New head coach Jeff Fisher made it pretty clear that the Rams will protect quarterback Sam Bradford, and they'll need an upgrade over Jason Smith to do so.
