NFC Wild Card: That Couldn't Be Us Out There, St. Louis Rams Fans

Saturday the New Orleans Saints and the Detroit Lions participated in a wild, high-scoring NFC Wild Card game, with the Saints out-wilding the Lions by a high score of 45-28, and if there was one consolation for St. Louis Rams fans who had parceled out this time, circa August, for a chance to root the resurgent Rams to playoff glory, at least it's this: The Wild Card was never what we wanted or expected. All along Sam Bradford and company expected, if they expected the postseason at all, to follow the Denver Broncos' path, sneaking in through a weak West division championship at 8-8 or 9-7.

That's right, Rams fans: At least that couldn't have been us.

So while you watch Tim Tebow and company chase upset glory at 8-8—a turn of events that would, if nothing else, provide for some of the most schadenfreude-y viewing moments in casual NFL viewing history for Tebowphobes and circumcision skeptics the world over—and wonder about what might have been, at least pat yourself on the back and say, "Well, at least that wasn't ever going to be us yesterday."
