Rams vs. 49ers score update: St. Louis leads San Francisco after 3 quarters, 17-7

The St. Louis Rams have extended their lead over the San Francisco 49ers to 17-7 after three quarters of play at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, Calif.

The Rams tacked on three points after their drive was extended late in the quarter when 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald was flagged for a helmet-to-helmet hit on St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford. San Francisco held the Rams from scoring on three straight plays inside the 49ers' 10-yard line, forcing St. Louis to settle for a 27-yard field goal from Greg Zuerlein.

The 49ers struggled on offense with backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick under center. The second-year pro out of Nevada has completed just 2 of 7 passes for 14 yards in relief of Alex Smith, who left the game with a concussion in the second quarter.

Bradford is 12 for 20 with 149 yards and a touchdown, while running back Steven Jackson has carried the ball 20 times for 71 yards and a score.
