After back-to-back wins, including a hard-fought victory against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14, the St. Louis Rams are one win away from climbing back to .500 for the first time since Week 6. With four games left to play, including three road games, a playoff run for the Rams would be very unlikely. However, that didn't stop Joel Thorman from mentioning the possibility in his latest power rankings for SB Nation:
24. St. Louis Rams (LW: 26, 5-6-1): Six teams are ahead of them for the Wild Card. It's incredibly unlikely, but not impossible.
The No. 24 ranking was pretty low from Thorman compared to other rankings, though. With the win, the Rams cracked the top 20 of ESPN's power rankings, although NFC West blogger Mike Sando is a little perplexed by the team:
19. St. Louis Rams: So, the Rams can go 4-0-1 against the NFC West, but could not beat Mark Sanchez? (Sando)
In the power rankings from Pete Prisco for CBS Sports, he thought even more highly of the Rams, placing them all the way in No. 17 and mentioning the possibility of the playoffs:
17. They are alive in the playoff chase. Can you believe? Too bad they don't play the 49ers every week.
The Rams will travel to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 14 and try to earn a third consecutive victory. It would take a massive end of the season collapse by the 49ers and Seahawks to allow the Rams to get back in to contention for the NFC West, though.
