NFL Free Agency 2012: Brandon Lloyd's Agent Opens Door For Patriots To Swoop In

St. Louis Rams free-agent wide receiver Brandon Lloyd has expressed an interest in following Josh McDaniels, and now his agent Tom Condon has reached out to the media and open the door for the New England Patriots to make their move. Condon's agency, CAA Sports, has had a rocky relationship with the Patriots organization since a 2004 rookie contract dispute involving tight end Ben Watson, but Condon recently spoke with the Boston Herald and said that episode is in the past:

"Both sides know how this works. If they [the Patriots] have an interest they call up and tell you when free agency starts or they meet you at the combine or whenever. We both know what Brandon is. He's a smart, explosive receiver. He's a player who is going to get offers. As I told him last night, if he wants to go to the team that pays him the most money, wonderful. If he wants to go to a team that pays him less but where he feels there's better opportunity for success, wonderful. He'll make that decision. He'd like to be with Josh. He'd also like to get paid. I think he'll be a player teams will be interested in."

If Lloyd departs, the Rams will have to consider whether to replace his production via free agency or in the 2012 NFL Draft, where Oklahoma State Cowboys wide receiver Justin Blackmon is expected to be available for the No. 2 overall pick.
