Free-agent defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth has bounced around the NFL since dominating the league during his last go around with Jeff Fisher in Tennessee, but now Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that Fisher and the Rams have discussed signing the talented malcontent in the off-season. Haynesworth has worn out his welcome with the Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to his poor work ethic and lack of good judgment.
After signing a massive free-agent deal with the Washington Redskins several years ago and banking $35.6 million in guaranteed money while underwhelming with his play on the field, the team traded him for a fifth-round draft pick to the New England Patriots back in July of 2011. He under-performed during the first six weeks of the season, and the Patriots promptly cut ties with the former first-round pick, who then finished out the season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
There is no doubt that Haynesworth's biggest moments in his NFL career came during his time with Jeff Fisher and Tennessee, and it's unlikely that many other NFL teams would be willing to outbid the Rams based on the hope that he could suddenly turn it around somewhere else. If St. Louis is serious about adding the defensive tackle, they will likely have priority, and the team clearly needs a talent upgrade in the middle of the defensive line.
