Peyton Manning's NFC West Sweepstakes Eliminates Arizona Cardinals, Welcomes San Francisco 49ers

Peyton Manning's trip through the NFL free agency ringer has finally eliminated one NFC West contestant—to Rams fans' infinite relief, the Arizona Cardinals will be going with Kevin Kolb instead of chasing Manning. Unfortunately, the San Francisco 49ers look more serious than ever about replacing Alex Smith with the erstwhile Best Quarterback in the Universe, which—given their 13-3 record with Alex Smith—is probably bad news to a Rams team that might sneak into contention again if everything breaks right.

Unfortunately for Rams fans, it looks like there are few options in which Peyton Manning's decision doesn't completely ruin their summer. If he goes with the 49ers, we'll have to worry through the offseason about the best team in the division getting better—potentially vastly better. If he goes with the Broncos, as has seemed increasingly likely, we'll get a year filled with stories about loving Tim Tebow, hating Tim Tebow, and loving and hating that Tim Tebow has been replaced by a player that the media also loves and hates.

It's going to be bad. I'm sorry.
