2012 Rams Free Agency: St. Louis Signs WR Steve Smith And TE Matthew Mulligan

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis Rams have acquired two new weapons for QB Sam Bradford and the Rams' offense. On Monday afternoon, the Rams came to terms with WR Steve Smith (not the same player as WR Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers) and TE Matthew Mulligan:

Smith joins the team after five seasons split between the New York Giants and, most recently, the Philadelphia Eagles. With 231 career receptions, Smith has acrued 2510 yards and 12 touchdowns over the last five years. Playing in 9 games in 2011, Smith caught 11 passes for only 124 yards, but the USC product did manage a 1220-yard, 7-touchdown season in 2009 with the Giants.

Mulligan, who earned some starting playing time in 2011 with the New York Jets, has only 6 career receptions for 60 yards, but the 27-year-old Maine graduate brings exceptional size to the Rams' offensive line and receiving corps.
