Despite the fact that Josh Brown remains under contract, the St. Louis Rams took a shot on a kicker of the future with the selection of Greg Zuerlein with the first pick of the 6th round. Zuerlein began his career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, but finished it at Missouri Western after the UNO program was disbanded.
Zuerlein has a big leg, as evidenced by the 58-yard field goal he hit this season. He set a school-record at Missouri Western with 23 made field goals during the regular-season. At one point during the season, Zuerlein made 21 consecutive field goals, including nine straight from 50+ yards.
Brown had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2011/2012, hitting just 75% of his kicks. It was his lowest field goal percentage since the 2005/2006 season, when he was a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
