2012 NFL Draft: Rams Drop Josh Brown After Drafting Kicker

One of the sad truths of the Steve Spagnuolo era in St. Louis was that kicker Josh Brown was always close to the best player on the team. But after a so-so season in 2011, Jeff Fisher and the new Rams front office has decided to move on, cutting Brown this weekend after drafting Missouri Western State's Greg Zuerlein in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Not only did Brown have the worst season of his career in 2011, but he was owed $2.7 million in salary for 2012, which is money that the Rams saved by jettisoning him. Fisher told Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Brown understood the move, which just about any veteran in a young man's game probably would.
