For a long time, now, the St. Louis Rams fan who didn't draft Steven Jackson has had a hard time getting a Ram on his fantasy football team. Sam Bradford might be a backup quarterback option, and some desperate preseason watcher will choose Lance Kendricks as a tight end late, but things have been pretty ugly ever since the Greatest Show on Turf left town. But if you're looking for a homer pick, you could maybe do worse than the Rams' rookie kicker, Greg Zuerlein.
↵He'll get more opportunities than Josh Brown did last season—the Rams' offense is going to be better than it was last year, when it couldn't reach the red zone. But unless Steven Jackson suddenly goes full-Bettis there they're going to come up short more often than a first-class team.
↵And if this preseason is any indication, Greg Zuerlein has every tool a kicker could need. (I think there's just two: Being able to kick the ball really far, and being able to kick the ball really accurately.) He showed off his gametime power in scoring the Rams' only points against the Indianapolis Colts, and he earned Peter King's raves in training camp. Plus he's in a dome!
↵Really, though, here's why Greg Zuerlein makes a great fantasy football homer pick: He's a kicker. Kickers are crapshoots, and they're low-stakes crapshoots, too; if you can get a kicker on a great offense, go for it, but I wouldn't be the one to start the kicker run in your draft.
↵And if you can't: There's Greg Zuerlein, who could ride a pretty-good offense into the fantasy top 10 in 2013.
