So much for being patient with Janoris Jenkins. The St. Louis Rams drafted Jenkins, the prototypical high-risk-high-reward guy, in the second round because he had numerous character issues that kept teams away from drafting him in the first round, where some people rated his talent. People were reluctant to draft him in the first round, but now that the Rams have done it—and despite their arguments with Jenkins over his contract—everyone seems ready to believe he's a first-round talent.
↵He's officially become the breakout star of the Rams' training camp, the future of their defense, the possible defensive rookie of the year. It's very exciting, and it's plausible, because Jenkins did have that proverbial first-round talent.
↵But this is a guy the Rams didn't appear to trust with his own money a month-and-a-half ago, and he hasn't played a regular season game yet. The Rams gave up a shocking amount of points a year ago, have completely replaced their coaching staff, and have already lost their defensive coordinator to a once-in-a-lifetime scandal.
↵So it might be worth cutting back on the Pro Bowl touts, at least until he's picked up his first regular season interception.
