The St. Louis Rams begin their first season under head coach Jeff Fisher with a challenging Week 1 matchup against the Detroit Lions.

The Lions expect to be a playoff contender in the loaded NFC North division with plenty of young talent on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson are heading into their prime ages after developing into a potent combination over the past three years.

On defense, the Lions can apply pressure from all angles with third-year menace Ndamukong Suh anchoring the defensive line.

Fisher's teams in Tennessee were known for their aggressive play, which should help improve the St. Louis defense. On offense, the Rams will look for quarterback Sam Bradford and running back Steven Jackson to stay healthy and productive in order to start the season strong.

The oddsmakers like the Lions at Ford Field in Detroit for the opener, making them nine-point favorites over the Rams. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday. Television coverage is on Fox with Chris Myers and Tim Ryan calling the game.
